An AI coach should remember what the user can correct.

An assistant that remembers a user’s equipment preference can save time. An assistant that repeatedly acts on an outdated preference can undermine trust. Memory is therefore a product feature with ownership and correction rules, rather than an instruction to save everything a person says.

Start with the distinction already in the product

UltraFit360’s AI Coach guide separates recent conversation context from tools that read and save user memory. That is a useful starting boundary. A message helps interpret the current conversation; a durable fact may influence a later session. Moving information between those categories should be an intentional decision.

Separate statements from authoritative records

A message such as “I usually train on Tuesdays” can be a preference. The scheduled programme is a product record. If the two disagree, the assistant needs a rule for interpreting that disagreement rather than silently editing one to match the other. Keep the source and last-confirmed time with remembered information when they matter to the workflow.

Make correction a normal action

Users change schedules, equipment and goals. Provide a way to inspect important remembered preferences and replace or remove them. A correction should affect future retrieval, not merely add another contradictory sentence to a growing memory transcript. Decide whether historical conversations remain visible and explain that distinction in the product.

Retrieve only the context a task needs

An equipment question does not require a complete history of every meal and conversation. Choose context from the task, signed-in account and tool permissions. Keep unrelated or sensitive records out of prompts and routine logs. A memory store must respect the same account boundaries as the rest of the application.

Evaluate stale and conflicting memory

  • The user corrects a previously saved preference.
  • A stored statement conflicts with a current programme.
  • A remembered fact has expired or lacks a clear source.
  • The user switches accounts on a shared device.
  • A tool cannot retrieve the expected context.

Check the final behaviour, including which tools were called and what was changed. A warm response does not establish that memory was used correctly. Health-related statements also need careful product boundaries: storing an assertion does not validate it or make the assistant a clinical authority.

These rules transfer to B2B assistants that remember account preferences, writing conventions or operating schedules. Keep the useful convenience while preserving the ability to explain and correct the underlying state.
